ABOUT US
Gmg Materials was incorporated early 2009 with an intent to supply European raw materials and feedstock to China mainland OEMs / manufacturers.
As Renminbi at the time was permitted to be freely traded in the territory of Hong Kong with mainland China clients additionally preferring Renminbi trades over currency trades, it made practical sense to locate and operate ex HK SAR.
To begin off the focus was on ferrous scrap, RCF (recovered cellulose fibre) and secondary polymer including clean scrap materials - all shipped in sea containers.
However, over oncoming years, there was a pronounced shift towards ferrous scrap and recovered polymer with spent solvents being added to the portfolio some years later on.
Exports of above raw materials were strictly controlled via the AQSIQ system of permissions which GMG Materials gained access to via subsidiary companies in the UK / EU successfully executing multiple contracts to major sea ports viz. Tianjin, Qingdao and Shanghai etc.
Year 2017 saw the launch of China Government policy operations vide the Operation National Sword variably called the Operation Green Fence etc when the need to diversify onto other markets took a stronger impetus and the company begun developing trade portfolios in other markets including markets in South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc) and South East Asia (Malysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines etc).
Currently the companies trade desks are focussed on developing end use client portfolios featuring mid-cap steel mills / furnaces / foundries both in the South and SE Asian markets with a view to growing the ferrous and non ferrous metal scrap baskets from Europe and the surrounds.
Adding impetus to the above efforts are the company's newly set up Commercial Desks in India with a view to point and then regularly deliver feedstock to furnaces and mills in this burgeoning market (April 2025 World Steel ranking of #2 circa 12.9Mt placed in between China at #1 and Japan / USA #3 and #4 respectively).
The company strengths not only include experienced procurement teams buying and aggregating metal and polymer all over the EU 27 but also freight & logistics teams constructing efficient supply chains in delivering agreed product to end use clients in the competitive consuming markets.
With South Asian Commercial Desks joining in, GMG Materials will be able to more actively offer and strongly showcase scores of years of end use market experience amongst the companies European and Asian commercial desks.
